### Aaron Nola Heads to Injured List; Prospect Mick Abel to Make MLB Debut
Philadelphia Phillies' righthanded pitcher, Aaron Nola, has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right ankle sprain, retroactive to May 15. This marks Nola's first stint on the IL since 2017. To fill the vacancy on their roster, the Phillies have recalled righthander Daniel Robert from their AAA affiliate, Lehigh Valley.
The announcement follows one of the worst performances in Nola's career on Wednesday night. Reports from Matt Gelb reveal that Nola sustained the injury prior to his recent start against Cleveland. As a result, the rehab stint is seen as an understandable, albeit disappointing, response to his recent struggles.
For a pitcher known for his durability over the past eight years, this development comes as a bit of a surprise. Since a forearm strain landed him on the IL in 2017, Nola has consistently made over 30 starts each season, except for the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
This injury also provides an opportunity for top prospect Mick Abel, who is set to make his major league debut on Sunday. The one-time first-round draft pick will step in temporarily, while righthander Taijuan Walker, who has been having a strong season, will return to the rotation in Colorado.
As fans and the team hope for Nola's swift recovery, the Phillies are optimistic that he can bounce back and improve upon what has been a challenging season thus far.
