### AAA and S&P Global Market Intelligence Collaborate to Forecast Thanksgiving Holiday Travel

In a collaborative effort, AAA and S&P Global Market Intelligence (SPGMI) have developed a unique methodology to predict domestic travel volumes for the Thanksgiving holiday. This forecasting approach leverages a range of economic variables from SPGMI's exclusive databases. Inputs include macroeconomic indicators such as employment rates, household net worth, asset prices, and interest rates, alongside travel and tourism-specific variables like gasoline prices, airline travel data, and hotel stay statistics.

AAA and SPGMI have been tracking holiday travel volumes since 2000, utilizing historical travel data from DK SHIFFLET's TRAVEL PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM study. This extensive study surveys over 50,000 U.S. households monthly, providing detailed insights on travel behavior, visitor volume, and spending habits. The travel forecast is based on person-trips and includes round-trip travel itineraries, distinguishing it from TSA passenger screenings, which count each individual entry into secured airport areas.

The latest travel forecast, prepared during the week of October 7, 2024, expands the Thanksgiving travel period to a seven-day span from Tuesday, November 26 to Monday, December 2, a change from the traditional Wednesday through Sunday window. This broader timeframe is designed to better capture the full scope of holiday travel activities.

AAA, established in 1902, continues to evolve as one of North America's largest membership organizations, offering roadside assistance, vacation planning, member discounts, and financial services to over 65 million members, including nearly 58 million in the United States.
