ICARO Media Group
802 VT Frozen, based in Newport, Vermont, has issued a recall for approximately 8,221 pounds of frozen meat pizza due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on April 26, 2024.
The recall was initiated because the product contains soy, a known allergen, which was not listed on the product label. The frozen meat pizza items were produced from April 25, 2023, through April 25, 2024. Specifically, the affected product is a 17.8-ounce cardboard box labeled as "802 VT Frozen MEAT!!! CRISPY WOOD-FIRED CRUST HAND MADE PIZZA" with "best if used by" dates of April 25, 2024, through April 25, 2025.
The products subject to the recall bear the establishment number "EST. 46308" inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were distributed to retailers and fundraisers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
The issue with the mislabeling and undeclared allergens was discovered during routine FSIS verification activities. It was determined that soy was present in the product, but this was not mentioned on the label.
Fortunately, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming this product. However, the FSIS is advising consumers who have purchased these frozen meat pizzas to not consume them. Instead, they should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
The FSIS will be conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the recalling firm informs its customers of the recall and takes necessary steps to remove the product from the market. More information regarding the recall, including the retail distribution lists, will be made available on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
