**Thousands Honor Heroes in NYC's Annual Tunnel to Towers 5K**

Despite a gray, rainy sky over New York City, Sunday saw approximately 40,000 participants come together for the 23rd annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk. This event retraces the heroic journey of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who lost his life as he tried to save others during the collapse of the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.

The event began at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, with participants making their way through Lower Manhattan and ending at the site of the former Twin Towers. This somber yet inspiring run is a testament to the resilience and spirit of New Yorkers, even in the face of inclement weather.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, led by CEO and Chairman Frank Siller, was established to honor Stephen Siller and other first responders who perished on that fateful day. Over the years, the foundation's mission has expanded. It now supports injured and fallen service members and first responders, as well as their families. Programs under the foundation's umbrella include the Fallen First Responder Home Program, which pays off mortgages for the families of these heroes, and the Smart Home Program, building mortgage-free, technology-equipped homes for critically injured veterans and first responders.

Among the participants was retired United States Air Force Capt. Tonya Andrews, who shared her first experience at the event with Meteorologist Nick Kosir. Also in attendance were Maryann Woods and Laura Seals, who spoke about the importance of the event in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

In addition to honoring those lost on 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is also committed to ending veteran homelessness in the U.S. This year alone, the foundation has managed to place 6,500 veterans in homes, underscoring its continued impact beyond the annual 5K event.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K is not just a race, but a powerful reminder of the enduring American spirit and the community's commitment to supporting its heroes.
