Injury concerns have left the Washington Commanders pondering their starting quarterback position as they prepare to take on the San Francisco 49ers this week. Jacoby Brissett is currently the preferred choice, but a lingering hamstring issue might force the team to rely on Sam Howell.

According to the team's injury report, Brissett is designated as questionable for Sunday's game due to his hamstring ailment. Head coach Ron Rivera revealed that Brissett reported some tightness in his hamstring during Thursday's practice session.

However, there seems to be some positive news regarding Brissett's condition. Rivera stated that the quarterback took part in practice on Friday and displayed decent mobility, offering hope that he might be fit to lead the team on Sunday. The coaching staff, as well as fans, will keep a close eye on Brissett's progress in the coming days.

Brissett has recently been called upon to replace Howell during the latter stages of the past two games. His performances in those limited opportunities have been impressive, completing 78.3% of his passes (18-of-23) for 224 yards and three touchdowns without any interceptions. Such efficiency has generated confidence in Brissett's ability to navigate the offense effectively.

On the other hand, Howell has been the primary starting quarterback for Washington in the first 15 games of the season. His overall performance has been solid, completing 63.2% of his throws for 3,624 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions, resulting in a passer rating of 80.5. However, recent struggles have raised questions about his consistency, leading to the possibility of Brissett taking over the starting role.

Aside from the quarterback uncertainty, the Commanders will be without several key players due to injuries. Cornerback Kendall Fuller, cornerback Benjamin St-Juste, safety Percy Butler, center Tyler Larsen, and left tackle Charles Leno have all been ruled out for the upcoming game against the 49ers. Their absence will pose challenges to Washington's defense and offensive line.

Additionally, right tackle Andrew Wylie is listed as questionable, adding another layer of concern to the team's offensive line situation. His status will be closely monitored leading up to kickoff on Sunday.

The Washington Commanders find themselves in a decisive moment as they navigate the complexities of their quarterback situation. With Brissett battling a hamstring issue and Howell's recent struggles, a difficult decision lies ahead for Coach Rivera and his staff. Nonetheless, the team remains determined to compete against the formidable San Francisco 49ers and secure a victory in this crucial matchup.
