In response to the severe winter weather sweeping across the state, the University of Alabama has decided to "suspend normal operations" on Tuesday. Reports of snow and freezing rain have prompted the university to take precautionary measures and advise residents to only travel if absolutely necessary.

The National Weather Service has warned of the coldest temperatures in decades, creating treacherous conditions on roadways. As a result, the university has urged its students, faculty, and staff to prioritize safety and stay off the roads unless it is an emergency.

Despite the closure, the men's basketball game scheduled between the Tide and Missouri will proceed as planned. However, fans are being strongly encouraged to exercise caution and regularly check local weather updates and road conditions before embarking on their journey to campus.

"The safety and well-being of our fans is of utmost importance. We are closely monitoring the weather situation and will provide any necessary updates to our season ticket holders and students," said a spokesperson from the UA athletics department, as mentioned in a press release.

The university's athletics department, in collaboration with relevant authorities, will continue to vigilantly assess the weather conditions leading up to the 6 p.m. tipoff. As of now, the Tide boasts an impressive record of 11-5 and remains undefeated in conference play.

In light of the ongoing inclement weather, a scheduled Alabama football prospective walk-on meeting has been postponed to Wednesday, January 17.

As Alabama braces for these extreme weather conditions, it is crucial that individuals stay informed and adhere to the guidance provided by local authorities. The university will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of its community, ensuring that operations resume as soon as conditions permit.
