CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina Tar Heels showcased their new cast of playmakers in an impressive season opener against Radford, earning an 86-70 victory at the Smith Center. The overhauled roster wasted no time in displaying their improved passing game, amassing 18 assists during the game.

Last season, the Tar Heels struggled with stagnant offense, ranking third-worst in the ACC in assists, averaging under 12 per game. However, in their season opener, UNC proved that things have changed, tallying 18 assists - a number that would have ranked as their fifth-best total in any game last season.

The game started on a positive note for the Tar Heels, as Paxson Wojcik found an open RJ Davis for a three-point shot just three minutes into the match, already matching their single-game total from last season's opener. This early connectivity and unselfishness on the court set the tone for the game.

One of the standout players for UNC was Harrison Ingram, a transfer from Stanford who started in his Tar Heels debut. Standing at a solid 6-foot-7 and weighing 235 pounds, Ingram displayed exceptional playmaking ability, a rare trait for players of his size and position. Last season, he led the Cardinal in assists, averaging over three per game. Ingram's performance on Monday night included 12 points and three assists, showcasing his versatility and impact on the court.

In addition to Ingram, freshman guard Elliot Cadeau made a significant impression with his passing ability. After initially struggling with turnovers, Cadeau quickly bounced back and recorded a team-high six assists. His passing skills, described as "infectious" by his teammates, left a positive impact on the entire team. In fact, of UNC's 18 total assists, 15 came from newcomers such as Cormac Ryan, Paxson Wojcik, Harrison Ingram, and Elliot Cadeau.

Coach Hubert Davis expressed his satisfaction with the team's improved passing game, highlighting their 18 assists and noting that they could have easily surpassed the 20-assist mark had they capitalized on some missed opportunities. Davis commended the team's ball-sharing mentality and expressed optimism about the potential of this season's roster.

UNC's new cast of playmakers made a strong statement in their season opener, showcasing improved chemistry and unselfishness on offense. Their 18 assists not only marked a significant improvement from last season but also demonstrated the potential for this team to become a more formidable passing group. As the Tar Heels continue their season, fans can expect more exciting plays and selfless teamwork from this talented roster.
