In a fiery response to Colby Covington, UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland didn't hold back at a press conference before the UFC 296 ceremonial weigh-ins. While engaged in a verbal spat with his UFC 297 title opponent Dricus Du Plessis, Strickland took the opportunity to address Covington's recent controversial remarks.

During the press conference, Strickland asked the crowd, "You guys Colby fans in here? Give me a show of hands." He then proceeded to express his strong disapproval of Covington, describing him as an "utter piece of s***."

Despite Du Plessis trying to refocus the conversation on their upcoming fight, Strickland refused to be deterred. He continued his rant, stating, "If you know Colby on a personal level, he's f***** over everybody he f****** knows, and I take Colby as a personal insult to me."

Strickland further criticized Covington for mocking welterweight champion Leon Edwards' late father, calling it "the biggest f****** c*** move you can do." He defended Edwards, stating that he was raised to be a "real f****** American" and applauding his achievements. Strickland concluded his tirade by calling Covington a "fake, f****** p****."

Covington had previously taken shots at Strickland during Wednesday's media day for UFC 296, highlighting his comments about women and confidently predicting an easy victory if they were to face off in the octagon. Their clash of words only adds to the anticipation surrounding a potential matchup between the two.

Both Covington and Strickland have gained notoriety for their ability to offend and entertain fans. However, even Strickland acknowledged that Covington had crossed the line with his recent attacks, echoing the sentiments of other fighters.

Strickland's outburst demonstrates the intensity building ahead of UFC 297, where he will defend his middleweight title against Du Plessis on January 20 in Toronto. As the tension continues to mount, fans eagerly await further verbal exchanges and the ultimate showdown between these two fierce competitors.
