In a surprising move, the Tennessee Titans have decided to part ways with head coach Mike Vrabel. Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that the decision was a difficult one but necessary for the team's future success.

Vrabel, who was named head coach in January 2018, led the Titans for six seasons. During his tenure, the team experienced a mix of highs and lows. In his first two seasons, the Titans finished with a respectable 9-7 record each year. Their fortunes improved in 2019 when they advanced to the AFC Championship Game.

However, the following season brought disappointment as the Titans finished with an 11-5 record but lost in the first round of the playoffs. In 2021, the team secured the AFC's No.1 seed but suffered a shocking loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in their home playoff game.

The 2022 season proved to be a challenging one for the Titans, as they lost seven consecutive games, ultimately ending with a 7-10 record. This season, the team fared even worse, finishing with a disappointing 6-11 record and landing last in the AFC South. The Titans struggled against division opponents, going 1-5 in those matchups.

On the offensive side, the Titans ranked 28th in the NFL in total offense in 2023, while their defense ranked 18th. In a bid to address the team's struggles, Vrabel had previously replaced special teams coach Craig Aukerman earlier in the season.

Under Vrabel's leadership, the Titans won 56 games and lost 48, including both regular season and playoff matchups. However, recent performances and the team's failure to consistently compete for championships led Strunk to make the difficult decision to seek a new coaching staff.

Strunk remains committed to the vision of establishing the Tennessee Titans as a premier NFL franchise. With a promising young quarterback, a number of talented players, and upcoming opportunities through a coaching search, enviable cap space, and a top-10 draft position, the Titans' offseason will be crucial for shaping their future.

As the search for a new head coach begins, the Titans organization looks forward to the challenges ahead and remains dedicated to meeting the high expectations set for the team.
