Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed doubts about the readiness of rookie pacer Prasidh Krishna to deliver in the first Test match against South Africa. Gavaskar analyzed the preparedness of the Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, and highlighted concerns about Krishna's ability to bowl longer spells, which is crucial in Test cricket.
Krishna recently returned from an injury, and Gavaskar believes that it may affect his performance in terms of endurance and ability to bowl 15-20 overs in a day. Despite his reservations, Gavaskar stated that he hopes Krishna proves him wrong as it would signify India's success in the match.
When it comes to India's pace bowling attack, Gavaskar firmly believes that Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are definite selections. Both bowlers have showcased exceptional skills with both the white and red ball over the past year and a half. Gavaskar considers them automatic choices as the opening bowlers.
With regards to the remaining options, Krishna faces competition from two other pacers, Mukesh Kumar and Shardul Thakur. Shardul could potentially take the role of the seam bowling all-rounder, while either Mukesh or Krishna will likely be chosen as the fourth pacer in the lineup.
In all probability, the Indian team is expected to field four pacers in their bowling attack, with just one spinner being selected from either Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja.
As the team prepares for the upcoming Test series against South Africa, it remains to be seen if Prasidh Krishna can address Gavaskar's concerns and prove himself as a valuable asset to the Indian cricket team in the crucial first Test match.
