The NFL has handed down a severe punishment to Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee following a helmet-to-helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. During the Week 15 game, Kazee's hit left Pittman concussed and abruptly ended the Steelers' season.

In an announcement, the league revealed that Kazee will be suspended for the remainder of the 2023 regular season, as well as any potential playoff games if the Steelers manage to secure a postseason spot. The decision was made by NFL vice president of football operations, Jon Runyan.

The hit in question occurred with 8:49 remaining in the second quarter, as Kazee delivered a forceful blow to the head and neck area of Pittman, who was defenseless at the time. According to Runyan's written statement to Kazee, the safety had an unobstructed path to his opponent and could have avoided the illegal contact.
