In a crucial upcoming matchup against the Green Bay Packers, the availability of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford remains uncertain due to a right thumb injury. The Rams' head coach, Sean McVay, provided an update on Stafford's status, revealing that while he will not participate in Friday's practice, he will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game.

McVay acknowledged that Stafford's lack of participation in practice throughout the week was part of the team's predetermined plan. However, the coach emphasized that the decision on Stafford's status will be made up until game time. When asked if Stafford could effectively grip a football, McVay stated that he is observing progress daily.

The Rams have prepared a contingency plan for Stafford's absence, with Brett Rypien set to start if the star quarterback is unable to play. McVay acknowledged Rypien's commendable performance in practice and emphasized the importance of prioritizing Stafford's health over rushing his return. With a bye week in Week 10, there is a possibility that Stafford's absence on Sunday could afford him additional time to heal.

Stafford, in his first season with the Rams, has had a solid performance thus far, completing 59.7 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His ability to grip the football, particularly with his throwing hand, is crucial to his effectiveness as a quarterback.

In addition to Stafford's questionable status, right tackle Rob Havenstein (calf) will also be listed as questionable, although he will not practice on Friday. Linebacker Ernest Jones (knee) is ruled out for Sunday's game, but there is a possibility of his return following the bye week. Wide receiver Puka Nacua (knee), cornerback Cobie Durant (shoulder), and defensive tackle Larrell Murchison (knee) are also questionable for the game against the Packers.

The Rams will closely monitor Stafford's progress and make a decision on his availability prior to Sunday's kickoff. As the team prepares for a challenging matchup against the Packers, their focus remains on the quarterback's recovery and ensuring his long-term health.
