This decision comes after parting ways with Brian Johnson, who held the position for just one year. Moore will now become the Eagles' third offensive coordinator in as many years.
Prior to joining the Eagles, Moore served as the offensive coordinator for their NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, from 2019 to 2022. Following his stint with the Cowboys, he took on the role of offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023.
The Eagles' decision to bring in Moore stems from their desire to revitalize their offense, which has faced struggles throughout the season. Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed the need for fresh ideas and a new perspective to elevate the performance of quarterback Jalen Hurts and the rest of the team.
Sirianni emphasized the importance of hiring someone with a vision, play-calling capabilities, and the ability to effectively coach a quarterback. In Moore, the Eagles believe they have found the ideal candidate who can fulfill these requirements. Additionally, Sirianni highlighted the significance of establishing a strong working relationship between Moore and Hurts to steer the team back on track.
Throughout his four-year tenure as the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, Moore's offense consistently performed well, ranking second in points per game (27.7) and achieving top-6 offensive rankings on three occasions. However, his time with the Chargers saw a drop in offensive performance, with the team ranking 21st overall.
Moore's coaching career began in 2018 when he joined the Cowboys as the quarterbacks coach. His impressive work with the team led to a promotion as the offensive coordinator the following season.
The Eagles reportedly interviewed other notable candidates for the position, including former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson. However, it was Moore who ultimately stood out as the best fit for the team.
With Moore's arrival, the Eagles are optimistic about the future of their offense and hope that his expertise will bring about the desired improvements. As they move forward, the team aims to regain their competitive edge and return to prominence in the NFL.
In the meantime, Eagles' fans eagerly await the new season to witness the impact of their newly appointed offensive coordinator and the potential rejuvenation of their offensive unit.
