In a recent analysis, renowned sports commentator Paul Finebaum commended Chip Kelly's decision to join Ohio State as the offensive coordinator and opined that the move is more beneficial for the Buckeyes than the previous appointment of Bill O'Brien. Finebaum expressed his belief during an interview on WJOX's "McElroy and Cubelic In the Morning" show.

Finebaum pointed out that Kelly's choice to leave UCLA for Ohio State is indicative of his lack of confidence in the Bruins program. He even suggested that the UCLA coach should have been fired weeks or months ago, highlighting the questionable decision of retaining him. Finebaum drew comparisons to Kelly's earlier days, when he was hailed as one of the top college football coaches, contending for national championships.

The analyst further implied that UCLA's position as the "little brother" to the University of Southern California (USC) played a role in Kelly's departure. He also discussed the challenges faced by UCLA, such as being a "cash-strapped" university that struggles for attention amidst competition from major sports teams like the Lakers and Dodgers in Los Angeles. Additionally, Finebaum mentioned the dominance of USC, which often captures the media spotlight.

Recognizing the difficulties inherent in the UCLA football program, Finebaum labeled it a "really challenging job" and cautioned potential head coaches to approach it with caution. He stressed that winning a national championship may not be enough to garner attention in a city as competitive as Los Angeles. Finebaum argued that taking on the head coach position at UCLA could potentially lead to a dead-end career due to the high demands and formidable schedule.

While Finebaum's remarks shed light on the coaching dynamics at UCLA and Ohio State, it remains to be seen how Chip Kelly's tenure with the Buckeyes will unfold and whether his move proves advantageous for the program.
