Injury concerns loom over the Green Bay Packers as they head into their Week 16 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Receiver Jayden Reed and cornerback Jaire Alexander are among the seven players listed as questionable for Sunday's game.
Reed, who has been battling a chest injury, suffered a toe injury during last Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a result, he did not participate in practice this week. The Packers are closely monitoring his status as they prepare for the Panthers.
Alexander, on the other hand, has been sidelined since November 5th after a shoulder injury during the Packers' victory over the Los Angeles Rams. However, there is hope that the Charlotte native could make his return against the Panthers, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.
The Packers' injury report also includes several other key players. Receiver Christian Watson is doubtful with a hamstring issue, while tackle Luke Tenuta and running back Emanuel Wilson are also doubtful with ankle and shoulder injuries, respectively. Linebacker De'Vondre Campbell and safety Darnell Savage have been ruled out due to a neck and shoulder injury, respectively. Additionally, tight end Luke Musgrave is out with a kidney injury.
It is worth noting that Musgrave, Wilson, and Tenuta are designated to return from injured reserve but are not currently on the 53-man roster.
Although running back Aaron Jones is not given a game status, he is expected to be available for Sunday's game. Jones had a solid performance last week, rushing for 53 yards on 13 carries in his return from injury.
Another notable player on the Packers' injury report is running back AJ Dillon, who is listed as questionable. Coach LaFleur expressed confidence in Dillon's recovery from a thumb injury sustained two weeks ago against the New York Giants. Last week's game against the Buccaneers was the first Dillon missed due to injury in his NFL career.
The Panthers, who are also dealing with their fair share of injuries, have listed safety Sam Franklin Jr., tight end Ian Thomas, and linebacker Claudin Cherelus as questionable for Sunday's game. However, linebackers Brian Burns, Yetur Gross-Matos, and Marquis Haynes are expected to play after returning to practice on Friday.
Overall, the Packers are closely monitoring the health of their players as they aim to secure a victory against the Panthers on Sunday. The availability of key contributors like Reed and Alexander will greatly impact the team's game plan as they look to stay atop their division and solidify their playoff positioning.
