In a thrilling matchup, the Oklahoma Sooners will take on the Arizona Wildcats in the 31st Valero Alamo Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 28, in San Antonio, Texas. This will be Oklahoma's 57th bowl appearance, setting a school record with their 25th consecutive bowl game.
Both teams are eager to emerge victorious in the Alamo Bowl, which is scheduled to kick off at 8:15 p.m. CT and will be televised by ESPN. This marks the second appearance in the Alamo Bowl for both programs. The Sooners previously defeated Oregon in the 2021 game, while the Wildcats faced a defeat against Oklahoma State back in 2010.
Under the guidance of their second-year head coach, the Sooners finished the season with an impressive 10-2 overall record and secured second place in the Big 12 conference with a 7-2 record. On the other hand, the Wildcats, led by their third-year head coach, concluded their season with a 9-3 record and claimed the third position in the Pac-12 Conference with a 7-2 record.
Fans can expect an adrenaline-fueled showdown as both teams feature high-powered offenses. The Sooners rank third in the nation for scoring offense, averaging 43.2 points per game, and fifth in total offense with 502.4 yards per game. Arizona, not far behind, is ranked 25th in scoring offense, averaging 34.3 points per game, and 18th in total offense with 453.4 yards per game. The Wildcats have also showcased an impressive winning streak, securing victories in their last six games.
The upcoming Alamo Bowl clash will also bring back memories of the two previous encounters between Oklahoma and Arizona. In 1988, under the leadership of head coach Barry Switzer, the Sooners emerged victorious with a 28-10 win in Norman. However, the Wildcats got their revenge in 1989, defeating the Sooners 6-3 in Tucson.
Oklahoma's formidable presence in the bowl season continues to impress, as they make their 25th consecutive bowl appearance, breaking their own school record. This remarkable streak is not only the longest in Oklahoma's history but also the longest by any current Big 12 program. It is only surpassed by Georgia's 27 consecutive bowl appearances, making OU the second-longest active streak nationally.
For devoted Sooners season ticket holders, there is good news, as they will receive confirmation of tickets for the Alamo Bowl via email. Those who did not request tickets in advance will receive information on purchasing tickets for the game. The ticket allocation process will prioritize Championship Points within 2023 Sooner Club membership levels.
In addition, student football season ticket holders will receive notifications regarding ticket purchase procedures. Availability for student tickets will begin at different times based on membership status within the Sooner Club Collegiate.
With anticipation building, a public sale for tickets will commence on Monday at 1 p.m. CT, ensuring that every fan has a chance to witness this thrilling bowl game firsthand.
