The 31-year-old quarterback, who is currently in his 10th year in the league, shared his retirement plans with the Detroit Free Press earlier this week.

Bridgewater, who joined the Lions as Jared Goff's backup, has seen limited playing time this season, participating in just one play - a kneel-down to secure a victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 5. Despite his reduced role, Bridgewater expressed gratitude for his time in the league and revealed his intention to make the most of his final year.

The talented quarterback was selected as the 32nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft from Louisville. His career began with the Minnesota Vikings, but a severe injury in 2016, where he tore his left ACL and dislocated his knee during training camp, disrupted his path. Bridgewater missed the entire 2016 season and only returned to the field in November 2017, serving as Case Keenum's backup.

After a couple of successful seasons with the New Orleans Saints, Bridgewater went on to play for the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins. He signed with the Lions in August 2023, reuniting with former Saints assistant coach Dan Campbell.

Reflecting on his career, Bridgewater emphasized the importance of embracing life beyond football. He gained perspective during his injury and realized that his purpose extends far beyond the game. Football became a platform for him to make a difference, and he now looks forward to coaching football at the high school level and prioritizing time with his two sons.

Despite thoughts of retirement, Bridge water's farewell to the NFL won't be immediate, as the Lions currently hold a 9-4 record and are on track to clinch the NFC North title and secure a spot in the playoffs. In a twist of fate, two of the Lions' final three regular-season games are against the Minnesota Vikings, the team that drafted Bridgewater ten years ago. As of Week 15, a potential wild-card matchup between the Lions and Vikings looms if the NFC playoff picture remains unchanged.

Teddy Bridgewater's journey through the NFL has been marked by resilience, injury setbacks, and an unwavering focus on his purpose beyond the game. As he counts down to his retirement after the 2023 season, fans await his final performances on the field and anticipate the impact he will make as a coach in the future.
