New York Jets' star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams took to social media to address a hit that led to Houston Texans' rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud exiting their Sunday afternoon matchup. Williams defended himself while expressing concern for Stroud's well-being.
The incident occurred in the fourth quarter when Williams delivered a hit that caused Stroud to smack the back of his head on the turf at MetLife Stadium. Trainers immediately rushed to tend to Stroud as he lay on the field. With 6:30 left to play, Stroud eventually walked off the field and did not return, later being ruled out and placed in concussion protocol.
In response to the incident, Williams posted on his X account, stating, "I pray CJ is ok, everyone knows I'm not a dirty player or trying to hurt a great, Elite QB like him or any player in the league. I play hard and I play fair. Again I pray CJ is ok and wish him nothing but the best."
Williams, known for his exceptional skills on the defensive line, had a solid performance in the game, finishing with two tackles and a sack. This marked his third sack of the season, the first since the Jets' loss to the Buffalo Bills in November.
The Jets' defense capitalized on the challenging weather conditions in East Rutherford, New Jersey, causing difficulties for Stroud and hindering his ability to execute his usual offensive plays. Stroud was limited to just 91 passing yards by the tough Jets' defense, and his early departure from the game further escalated the Texans' struggles.
With this defeat, the Texans' record dropped to 7-6, while the Jets improved to 5-8. As Stroud remains in concussion protocol, the Texans hope he will progress through the necessary phases to be available for their Week 15 matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
The NFL will likely conduct a thorough review of the hit on Stroud to ensure player safety and determine if any disciplinary action is warranted. In the meantime, both teams will look ahead to their upcoming games, while Stroud's recovery progress will be monitored closely by the Texans' medical staff.
