A prominent Nevada law firm has taken legal action against the Formula 1 Las Vegas GP organization and its contractor on behalf of thousands of spectators, seeking refunds for their tickets. The lawsuit, filed by the Dimopoulos law firm in conjunction with JK Legal & Consulting, claims breach of contract, negligence, and deceptive trade practices against the defendants.
According to the lawsuit, approximately 35,000 spectators were present at the race track on Thursday when an incident involving Carlos Sainz led to the suspension of Free Practice 1. Subsequently, there was a delay while water valve covers were inspected, causing frustration among the attendees.
In response to the inconvenience suffered by the affected spectators, the event organizers offered a $200 voucher to be used at merchandise sites within the venue. However, the law firm argues that this compensation is insufficient and seeks financial restitution "in excess" of $30,000 per spectator, with both general and special damages being equally divided.
The legal action places responsibility on the Las Vegas GP organization and TAB Contractors Inc, the company responsible for maintaining the race track. It claims that the manhole cover seals, which were installed by TAB as part of their contractual obligations, were defective. The lawsuit also alleges that F1 and its contractors failed to properly inspect and ensure the track's safety for the "practice run" event.
The claim emphasizes the terms and conditions on the tickets, which state that a refund up to the face value would be due if the event were canceled and not rescheduled. As of the time the lawsuit was filed, none of the affected attendees had received any refunds for their tickets.
In addition to seeking monetary damages, the plaintiffs are requesting compensation for mental anguish, citing the defendants' willful, reckless, and intentional conduct as a basis for their claim.
When contacted for comment, a spokesperson for the F1 organization declined to provide a statement.
The outcome of this legal action could have significant implications for both the Formula 1 Las Vegas GP organization and its contractor, as well as potentially setting a precedence for future events where spectators experience similar disruptions.
