In a recent announcement, Navy Athletics and Under Armour unveiled the uniforms for the upcoming 2023 Army-Navy game, with a special tribute to the U.S. Submarine Force. The uniforms, made from Under Armour's "Eclipse Navy" fabric, embody the deep blue color of the sea where the Navy's submariners patrol.

A prominent feature of the uniform is a sleeve patch displaying the iconic anchor locked-up with the Submarine Warfare insignia, commonly known as "dolphins/fish." The design showcases a historically inspired rendering of dolphins flanking a submarine, representing the close relationship between submariners and their vessels. This Submarine Warfare insignia was developed in 1923 by Captain Ernest J. King, who proposed the creation of a warfare insignia device for qualified submariners.

The numbering font on the uniform is designed to resemble the lettering found on submarine hulls, adding an authentic touch. Additionally, the dark blue Under Armour cleats feature a pattern of sea swells, further emphasizing the connection to the naval environment.

The helmets worn by the Midshipmen are adorned with images of Virginia Class submarines on the right side, symbolizing the pride and strength of the U.S. Submarine Force. On the left side, a combination of the traditional Navy anchor and submariner pin is displayed. What makes this design particularly unique and eye-catching is the use of a color-changing paint that mimics the radar system aboard submarines when they lock onto a target.

The unveiling of these uniforms comes as 158 midshipmen have been assigned to submarines or nuclear submarines as their service assignments, marking their dedication and commitment to serving in the Silent Service.

The highly anticipated 2023 Army-Navy game is scheduled to take place on December 9, 2023, and will be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The game, which has a long-standing tradition of fierce rivalry and military pride, will now also serve as a platform to honor the invaluable contributions of the U.S. Submarine Force, its families, and supporting personnel.

As the Midshipmen continue their preparations for the much-anticipated game, the significance of these uniforms will serve as a reminder of the unwavering commitment of the U.S. Navy to protect the seas and uphold the values of the nation.
