The 2023 Michigan high school football playoff bracket has been officially released by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) on Sunday. The announcement includes the schedule for the highly anticipated 11-player finals, which will take place across the state.
Starting on October 27-28, the first round of games will feature District Semifinals for the 11-player playoffs and Regional Semifinals for the 8-player playoffs. The 11-player finals are scheduled to be held on November 25-26 at Ford Field.
Teams were categorically divided into divisions before the start of the fall season. The selection process for the playoffs was based on the top 32 teams in each division for the 11-player tournaments, and the top 16 teams per division for the 8-player tournaments, determined by their playoff-point average.
In the 11-player playoffs, the qualifiers were then divided into four regions with eight teams each. Similarly, for the 8-player playoffs, the qualifiers were divided into four regions with four teams in each. The initial pairings for the first three weeks of the tournament are primarily based on regular-season playoff point averages, with the highest-ranked team hosting, irrespective of the distance between the two schools.
During the District Semifinals for the 11-player playoffs and Regional Semifinals for the 8-player playoffs, the top-seeded team in each bracket will host the fourth-seeded team, while the second-seeded team will host the third-seeded team. Following this, the District Finals for the 11-player playoffs and Regional Finals for the 8-player playoffs are scheduled for the weekend of November 3-4.
On November 10-11, the Regional Finals in the 11-player playoffs and Semifinals in the 8-player playoffs will take place. The 8-player Semifinals will pit the winners of Region 1 against Region 2, and the winners of Region 3 against Region 4, at the venues of the highest-ranked teams.
The Semifinal games in the 11-player playoffs are scheduled for November 17-18, where the winners of Region 1 will face off against the winners of Region 2, and the winners of Region 3 will play against the winners of Region 4. The MHSAA has confirmed that the 11-player Semifinals will be assigned neutral sites.
The MHSAA has also revealed the schedule for the 11-player Finals weekend. In order to accommodate the Michigan State/Penn State football game on Friday, November 24, at Ford Field, the Finals will be played on Saturday and Sunday. The schedule for the Finals is as follows:
