TAMPA - In a thrilling display of talent and skill, Madisen Skinner of Texas led her team to a resounding victory in the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship national semifinals. Skinner's standout performance included 18 kills and an incredible six aces, contributing to a 25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16 win over third-seeded Wisconsin. The match took place in front of a record-breaking crowd of 19,598, the largest ever for an indoor NCAA volleyball match.

With this victory, the seventh-seeded defending national champions advance to the championship final, where they will face top-seeded Nebraska. Texas, now boasting a nine-game winning streak, improved their season record to 27-4.

Skinner, who has already won two NCAA titles in her career, showcased her exceptional skills with 18 kills, an impressive .227 hitting percentage, as well as an assist, nine digs, and a season-high six aces. Her stellar serving played a crucial role in Texas' success, exploiting the weaknesses of the Wisconsin team. Skinner's efforts were supported by Asjia O'Neal, who contributed 11 kills with a remarkable .688 hitting percentage.

Setter Ella Swindle also played a pivotal role, delivering four kills, 46 assists, and exhibiting her consistency with an ace, five digs, and two blocks. Texas' defensive efforts were led by Emma Halter, who recorded 19 digs, seven assists, and two aces.

Despite a valiant effort from Wisconsin, whose season ended with a 30-4 record, they were unable to overcome Texas' dominance. Sarah Franklin, the Big Ten player of the year, led the Badgers with 13 kills and seven digs, while Anna Smrek contributed 13 kills with an impressive .522 hitting percentage.

Reflecting on their victory, Madisen Skinner highlighted the team's preparation and strategy, making use of their knowledge of the opponents' weaknesses. She expressed her trust in herself and the coaching staff's decision to call upon her for crucial serves.

In the first set, Texas showcased their resilience by rallying to a 23-21 lead before sealing it with a block by O'Neal. They continued to battle in the second set, but Wisconsin's strong start and defensive efforts proved challenging. However, Texas bounced back in the third and fourth sets, with Skinner's remarkable serving run ensuring a comfortable lead for her team.

Texas Head Coach Jerritt Elliott praised Skinner, as well as the team's young players and Swindle's effective setting. On the other hand, Wisconsin Coach Kelly Sheffield acknowledged Texas' excellent performance and commended their courage and serving prowess.
