LSU head coach Brian Kelly has made some major changes within the coaching staff following the team's defensive struggles throughout the season. On Wednesday, Kelly fired defensive coordinator Matt House, along with three other assistants, as he looks to revamp the program heading into his third year at the helm.

The coaching staff shake-up saw the departures of cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples, safeties coach Kerry Cooks, and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey. Kelly informed the four coaches on Wednesday morning that they would not be returning for the upcoming season.

While Kelly had been evaluating the defensive coaches over the past month, he made the decision to maintain continuity until the early signing period and the ReliaQuest Bowl had passed. After LSU finished the season with a 10-3 record and a thrilling 35-31 victory over Wisconsin, Kelly shifted his focus towards making necessary changes to the coaching staff.

Kelly expressed gratitude towards the departing coaches, acknowledging their contributions to the football program and institution. He emphasized that these decisions were not taken lightly but were made in the best interests of the team and its student-athletes.

Amidst the coaching staff overhaul, it has been reported that John Jancek, who was originally the outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator, will be retained by Kelly. Jancek had previously shifted to the defensive line when Coach Lindsey stepped aside due to a medical issue just before preseason practice.

The specific role that Jancek will undertake going forward has yet to be determined. Additionally, Bob Diaco, who took over as the outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator when Jancek moved to the defensive line, will remain with the team. Diaco, a former defensive coordinator under Kelly at Notre Dame, was hired as a defensive analyst during the spring.

These changes within the LSU coaching staff are expected to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to improve the team's defensive performance. As the program looks ahead to the upcoming season, LSU fans will be eagerly watching to see how these alterations will impact the team's success on the field.
