In an effort to bolster their special teams unit, the Los Angeles Rams have made a strategic move by signing kicker Lucas Havrisik from the Cleveland Browns' practice squad. The announcement was made on Tuesday, bringing in a new face to potentially strengthen the Rams' kicking game.
Havrisik, who previously had a stint with the Indianapolis Colts, joined the Browns' practice squad in late August of this year. The University of Arizona alum went undrafted in 2021 but showed promise during his time in college.
During his five seasons with the Arizona Wildcats, Havrisik showcased his kicking skills. He made an impressive 34 of 53 field goal attempts and successfully converted 73 of 78 extra point attempts. His abilities as a long-range specialist made him stand out, handling kickoffs and long field goal attempts while his teammate, Tyler Loop, focused on shorter field goal attempts.
The native of Riverside, California, has etched his name in the Arizona Wildcats' record books. Havrisik finished his college career with an impressive five 50-plus yard field goals, making him the only Wildcat in the last 25 years to accomplish such a feat. Additionally, he holds the program record for the longest made field goal, converting from 57 yards twice.
According to reports from the Indianapolis Star, Havrisik had a tryout with the Colts during their rookie minicamp in 2022. Although he had workouts with multiple teams throughout training camp, the Colts ultimately signed him to their practice squad last September to compete with Chase McLaughlin for the starting kicker position. However, McLaughlin ultimately secured the job.
Now, Havrisik has the opportunity to prove his worth with the Los Angeles Rams. With his strong kicking leg and impressive college resume, he could potentially provide a valuable asset to the Rams' special teams unit.
As the Rams gear up for the upcoming season, the addition of Lucas Havrisik brings a fresh perspective and competition to the kicking game. It remains to be seen whether he will have the opportunity to showcase his skills on the field. Only time will tell if Havrisik can make a significant impact for the Rams this season.
