In a bold move to show support for the home team, Q102, a popular local radio station in Philadelphia, has decided to ban Taylor Swift's music from its airwaves this weekend. The temporary ban comes as the city prepares for the much-anticipated Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs NFL game on Monday.
Nugget, one of the hosts at Q102, expressed the station's love for Taylor Swift but emphasized the importance of demonstrating unwavering support for the Eagles. "Q102 is punting Taylor Swift from the radio station for the entire weekend because while Q102 loves Taylor Swift, we can't get enough of her, this weekend it's really important we show our support for the Birds," Nugget told CBS News Philadelphia.
The station's decision is reportedly influenced by Swift's relationship with Travis Kelce, a prominent player on the Chiefs' team. Swift has been seen attending Chiefs' games in the past, with the team achieving victory each time she has been present. The NFL has even playfully hinted at Kelce's improved on-field performance when Swift is in attendance.
Speculation had arisen that Swift might attend the upcoming game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. However, her scheduled concert in Rio de Janeiro for her Eras Tour on Monday evening will prevent her from being at the game. Swift postponed the Rio concert, originally planned for Saturday, due to extreme temperatures and the tragic death of a fan the night before.
Notably, Swift will miss the opportunity to introduce her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, who are longtime Eagles fans, to Travis Kelce's parents, Donna and Ed Kelce, as both sets of parents are reportedly attending the game. Kelce and his older brother, Jason Kelce, will face each other on the field for the first time since the Chiefs defeated the Eagles in the 2023 Super Bowl.
Despite her recent support for the Chiefs, Taylor Swift, a Pennsylvania native, previously revealed her allegiance to the Eagles. In her 2020 album "Evermore," Swift included a reference to an "Eagles T-shirt" in the song "Gold Rush," sparking speculation among fans. When her Eras Tour reached Philadelphia in May, Swift settled the debate, stating, "I saw some people wondering if it was the band the Eagles or the team the Eagles. Guys, like, come on, like, I'm from Philly, of course it's the team."
Q102 will resume playing Taylor Swift's music on Tuesday, once the game has concluded. Until then, the radio station aims to rally local support and create an atmosphere of Eagles fandom leading up to the highly anticipated NFL matchup.
