In the hunt for a new head coach, the Washington Commanders have set their sights on Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. As reported by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Johnson has emerged as the leading candidate for the Commanders' head coaching position, making him a top priority for both Washington and the Carolina Panthers.

The Commanders, who are also expected to hire former San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters as their new general manager, will prioritize finding the right coach to lead their team. Alongside Johnson, other candidates such as Raheem Morris, Mike McDonald, and Dan Quinn have received interview requests from the Commanders.

However, due to new NFL rules, Washington will have to wait until at least three days after the Wild Card round to conduct a phone interview with Johnson. In-person interviews will have to wait until after the divisional round.

Meanwhile, Johnson's impressive track record has not gone unnoticed by other teams. In addition to Washington and Carolina, the offensive coordinator has been requested to interview for head coaching positions with the Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, and Atlanta Falcons.

As the coaching carousel spins, Johnson's name continues to gain traction and generate interest across multiple franchises. It remains to be seen which team will ultimately secure his services, but for now, all eyes are on the Washington Commanders as they make their strong push for the highly sought-after offensive mind.
