In a recent interview with ESPN, Khamzat Chimaev expressed his frustration over potentially missing out on a shot at newly crowned champion Dricus du Plessis. Following du Plessis' victory at UFC 297 last Saturday, Chimaev believes he should be next in line for a title shot.

Chimaev, who remains undefeated and undisputed, pointed out that other contenders in the middleweight division have already faced each other. He also mentioned that Israel Adesanya will not be available until 2027, making him the most suitable opponent for du Plessis.

The Swedish fighter recalled being promised a title shot after his win against Kamaru Usman, and he feels that he has earned it. Frustrated with recent comments made by UFC CEO Dana White that he may not be next in line, Chimaev called it "bulls***."

Du Plessis, who emerged victorious in a close middleweight title fight against Sean Strickland at UFC 297, is yet to learn about his next opponent. White has remained tight-lipped regarding any plans involving du Plessis and the possibility of a quick turnaround for UFC 300 in April, where Chimaev hopes to face him.

Chimaev also revealed that he had suffered a health scare after his UFC 294 bout with Usman and had been "very sick." With a hand injury from the October fight also in the mix, Chimaev's status for UFC 300 remains uncertain. Although White acknowledged Chimaev's illness and recovery, he expressed doubts about the fighter's readiness for the historic event.

In response, Chimaev stated that he would be ready to compete at UFC 300 if given the opportunity and expressed surprise if someone else were chosen instead. While he hasn't personally spoken with White about the situation, Chimaev believes that he deserves the shot at the title.

Chimaev had already expressed his interest in fighting at UFC 300, informing his manager, Hunter Campbell, of his readiness before UFC 297. He emphasized the importance of regaining his health and being in optimal condition to compete, and he is now eager for the UFC to confirm his place on the card.

The wait continues for both Chimaev and du Plessis as the UFC deliberates on the next move in the middleweight division. Fans will eagerly await the decision, with Chimaev hoping to secure his title shot and prove his worth against the new champion at UFC 300 in Las Vegas on April 13.
