In a move to bolster their offensive prowess, the University of Kentucky is reportedly targeting Boise State's offensive coordinator, Bush Hamdan, to fill the role for the upcoming season. Sources have revealed to ESPN that a deal between Hamdan and Kentucky is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Hamdan brings a wealth of experience to the table, having worked as an offensive coach in the SEC during his time at Missouri. He also boasts impressive coordinating experience at Boise State and Washington. Notably, under his guidance, Boise State achieved a No. 6 ranking in rushing offense, averaging an impressive 214.9 rushing yards per game in 2023. Furthermore, the team clinched the Mountain West championship and finished No. 26 in the country in total offense.
Before joining Boise State, Hamdan served as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach for Chris Petersen at Washington. During his tenure there, the team even reached the College Football Playoff. In addition, Hamdan's expertise extends to the NFL, where he coached quarterbacks for the Atlanta Falcons.
With Hamdan expected to depart from Boise State, one of the most enticing offensive coordinator roles in the nation opens up. The Broncos, who will be returning eight offensive starters next season, including Mountain West Player of the Year Ashton Jeanty, are considered one of the top Group of 5 programs. Furthermore, their offseason acquisition of quarterback Malachi Nelson, the country's top recruit in 2023, has generated significant interest.
As Kentucky prepares for a new chapter under the leadership of Bush Hamdan, they bid farewell to their previous offensive coordinator, Liam Coen, who recently accepted the role of offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coen's departure has left a void that Hamdan is poised to fill, bringing his extensive experience and expertise to the Wildcats' offensive unit.
The university and its fans eagerly await the official announcement of Hamdan's appointment, hopeful that his offensive prowess will help propel the Kentucky Wildcats to new heights in the upcoming season.
