In a thrilling Week 14 matchup, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco led the Cleveland Browns to a hard-fought 31-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Flacco, who recently joined the Browns, made an impressive home debut, throwing for 311 yards and three touchdowns.
The 38-year-old Flacco, known for his consistency as a visitor with the Baltimore Ravens, showed that he still has what it takes to command a game. He completed 26 of 45 passes and improved his record to an impressive 10-2 as a starter in Cleveland.
Despite playing with a sprained ankle, Trevor Lawrence took the field for the Jaguars. However, Lawrence struggled early on, throwing a season-high three interceptions. Nonetheless, the talented young quarterback mounted an impressive fourth-quarter comeback and finished the game with 257 yards and three touchdown passes.
Lawrence's final touchdown pass, a 1:33 left connection with Evan Engram, brought the Jaguars within four points. However, Cleveland's Myles Garrett sacked Lawrence on the ensuing 2-point conversion attempt, sealing the win for the Browns. The Browns then recovered an onside kick to secure their victory.
Flacco's exceptional performance was highlighted by two first-half touchdown passes to David Njoku. The veteran quarterback also connected with wide receiver David Bell for a 41-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of a bold fourth-down blitz by the Jaguars.
The Browns, who have been plagued by injuries and forced to play four different quarterbacks this season, are now putting their playoff hopes in Flacco's hands. With this victory, they have improved to a respectable 8-5 record and are ready to make their mark in the stretch drive.
Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they suffered their second loss in just six days. Despite Lawrence's valiant efforts, the team couldn't overcome their injuries. Lawrence was without one of his top receivers, as Christian Kirk was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week.
Jacksonville, currently in first place in the AFC South, will now have to fend off the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts, who both suffered losses on Sunday. The Jaguars, who had previously won all their road games this season, will look to bounce back when they host the Baltimore Ravens on December 17.
Next up for the Browns is a home game against the Chicago Bears on December 17. Coach Kevin Stefanski's decision to start Flacco paid off, as the veteran quarterback showcased his experience and leadership to guide his team to victory.
The game was not without its share of injuries, as both teams had key players go down throughout the course of the matchup. In particular, Jaguars left tackle Ezra Cleveland and safety Andre Cisco exited the game with injuries, while Browns starting center Ethan Pocic suffered a neck stinger and defensive tackle Jordan Elliott suffered a concussion.
In the end, it was a well-fought battle between two determined teams. Joe Flacco's standout performance, combined with the resilience of Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars' late comeback attempt, made for an exhilarating game that showcased the best of football.
