One of the NFL's most exciting rivalries between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills will be reignited in the AFC playoffs on Sunday night. In a first for his career, Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes will take on the Bills in a postseason matchup away from home.
The Bills are entering the game with an impressive six-game winning streak, showcasing a remarkable turnaround for a team that seemed to be out of the postseason race after losing five of their first eight games. Despite facing significant injuries to key contributors, such as linebacker Matt Milano (leg fracture) and cornerback Tre'Davious White (Achilles), the Bills managed to secure their spot in the Divisional Round with a convincing 31-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
However, Buffalo's injury situation remains concerning. Nine defensive players are listed on the final injury report for Sunday's game. Three - Baylon Specter (back), cornerback Christian Benford (knee), and safety Taylor Rapp (calf) - have already been ruled out. Linebacker Terrel Bernard (ankle) is listed as questionable, while cornerbacks Taron Johnson (concussion) and Rasul Douglas (knee) are also shown as questionable. Wide receiver Gabe Davis, who had a standout performance in last year's Divisional Round game against Kansas City, will miss the game after missing all of this week's practices.
The Bills' offense is not without injury concerns as well. Wideout Stefon Diggs, though not designated as injured, missed Thursday's practice and was limited on Friday. Punter Sam Martin is listed as questionable after being limited in practice due to a hamstring injury.
On the other hand, the Chiefs have a more favorable injury outlook. Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi is ruled out with a triceps injury suffered last week. Backup left tackle Wanya Morris is also listed as out while recovering from a concussion, making way for Donovan Smith to make his second consecutive start. Wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Justyn Ross, who missed the Wild Card game, are listed as questionable. However, standout wideout Skyy Moore remains on the Chiefs' Reserve/Injured list.
While both teams have significant injury concerns, the Chiefs appear to be closer to full health compared to their AFC rivals. As the Chiefs embark on their first road playoff game since the 2015 season, this matchup has the potential to become another classic battle between the Chiefs and Bills.
Despite the injury challenges, the Bills come into the game as narrow home favorites, buoyed by their recent success and a resilient ability to overcome setbacks. Football fans can expect an intense and closely contested showdown in which both teams will be vying for a spot in the conference championship.
