Hall of Fame Coach Bill Self Signs Amended Lifetime Contract with University of Kansas

Naismith Hall of Fame member Bill Self, one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history, has signed an amended contract with the University of Kansas, according to an announcement by Director of Athletics Travis Goff. With 773 career wins, two national championships, and 20 conference championships, Self's impressive track record has solidified his place among the coaching greats.
Under the terms of the amended contract, Self's commitment to the university will extend throughout his entire career. The restructuring of the contract reflects the university's recognition of Self's consistent success and his instrumental role in elevating KU basketball to unparalleled heights.
Goff expressed his confidence in Self, stating, "Bill Self is undoubtedly the most consistent coach in college basketball, and a restructuring of his contract terms were long overdue. In an ever-changing collegiate athletics environment, our strong commitment to Coach Self positions KU basketball to maintain and enhance its status as the most storied program in the country."
During his 20-year tenure at Kansas, Self has achieved remarkable milestones. With an impressive winning percentage of .811, he has guided the Jayhawks to 13 consecutive Big 12 Conference championships, a remarkable feat that ties an NCAA record. Self's 566 wins since joining Kansas also make him the winningest active Power 5 coach.
The success of the Kansas men's basketball program has extended beyond the court. The team has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, with seven consecutive term GPAs over 3.0 and a program-record 3.29 GPA in the fall of 2022. Additionally, the team has maintained a perfect single-year APR score of 1000 for six straight years and in 15 of the past 19 years.
Reflecting on his continued commitment to the university, Self expressed his gratitude to the Kansas leadership team, stating, "I am very appreciative to Chancellor (Douglas) Girod, Travis Goff, and the entire KU leadership team for their continued belief and confidence in me and my staff to lead this storied program.
