In a disappointing turn of events for the New York Giants, quarterback Daniel Jones is still awaiting clearance for contact, according to coach Brian Daboll. This development raises doubts about his availability for Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders. Should Jones be unable to suit up, Tyrod Taylor is slated to start in his place.

The Giants' injury report ahead of Sunday's matchup has several notable names. Offensive linemen Andrew Thomas, John Michael Schmitz, and Matt Peart have all been ruled out due to injuries. A hamstring issue will sideline Thomas, while Schmitz and Peart are dealing with shoulder injuries.

There is also uncertainty surrounding right tackle Evan Neal, who is listed as questionable with an ankle injury. Furthermore, cornerback Adoree' Jackson's availability is also in question due to a neck issue. If Neal proves unable to play, newly signed Tyre Phillips from the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad appears to be the likely replacement.

Jones, who missed last week's game against the Buffalo Bills due to a neck injury, has been limited in practice this week. While he has participated in individual drills, he has not taken any reps during team periods. Although there is a possibility that Jones could be cleared for contact on Friday or Saturday, it seems unlikely at this point.

If Jones is ultimately unable to take the field on Sunday, Tyrod Taylor will step into the starting role. Taylor has prior experience as a starting quarterback, having played for the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Chargers.

The Giants will anxiously await a decision on Jones' status as they prepare for Sunday's crucial matchup. His presence would undoubtedly provide a much-needed boost to the team's offensive capabilities.
