Former Indianapolis Colts player Matt Ulrich, a former offensive lineman and member of the team's Super Bowl championship team in 2006, has tragically passed away at the age of 41, as announced by Colts owner Jim Irsay. Ulrich's death has left the football community and his fans in mourning.
Ulrich, born in the Chicago area, attended Northwestern University and went on to sign with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2005. Despite his short tenure of only two seasons with the team, he had a lasting impact on his teammates and fans alike.
In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), Irsay expressed his grief, saying, "I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Matt Ulrich. Matt was with us only two seasons, but left his mark on many. Great guy, I hear he was a great dad - and he was a Super Bowl champ. My prayers go out to his family."
Ulrich played a total of ten games for the Colts, with five games in the 2005 season and another five games in 2006, before retiring. Reflecting on his time playing in the Super Bowl, Ulrich once shared, "It's an incredible feeling, definitely one of the best memories, just being on the field with your teammates, especially that game."
After retiring from football, Ulrich ventured into entrepreneurship. He co-founded DexaFit, a brand of body fat and metabolic testing centers across the United States, and served as the managing director and partner with the Profitable Ideas Exchange in Bozeman, Montana. Additionally, Ulrich was listed as a player advisor for The Football Players Health Study at Harvard University, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the sport.
Ulrich is survived by his wife, Alison, and their four sons. The news of his passing has shaken the football community, with many teammates, friends, and fans offering condolences and support to the grieving family.
The Colts organization and the football community at large mourn the loss of a talented player, devoted father, and Super Bowl champion. Matt Ulrich's legacy will be remembered by his achievements on the field, his entrepreneurial endeavors, and, above all, his role as a loving husband and father.
