Florida State University (FSU) will be bidding farewell to one of its top wide receivers as Johnny Wilson announced his decision to declare for the NFL Draft. The announcement was made on Wednesday during an interview with ESPN's Pete Thamel. Wilson will not be participating in FSU's upcoming Orange Bowl game against Georgia on December 30.
Wilson spent two productive seasons with the FSU football program after transferring from Arizona State via the NCAA Transfer Portal. During his time with the Sun Devils, the 6-foot-7 wideout recorded 20 receptions for 243 yards and one touchdown. However, upon joining the Seminoles, he saw a significant increase in his performance.
In 2022, Wilson made an impact in his first season as a Seminole, tallying 43 receptions for 897 yards and 5 touchdowns. This season, he continued to shine, hauling in 41 more passes for 617 yards and two touchdowns.
According to reports from Thamel, Wilson, a redshirt junior, is projected by NFL scouts as a Top100 draft pick. Additionally, he revealed his plans to participate in the Reese's Senior Bowl, further showcasing his skills to potential NFL teams.
Wilson's decision to enter the NFL Draft is a testament to his growth and development as a player during his time with FSU. He has proven himself as a formidable wide receiver, consistently making impactful plays on the field.
FSU will undoubtedly miss Wilson's presence in future football seasons, but his departure presents an exciting new chapter for him as he pursues his dreams of playing at the professional level. The FSU community wishes Johnny Wilson the best of luck in his NFL endeavors and will remember his contributions to the Seminole football program.
