In a blow to the Philadelphia Eagles, star defensive lineman Fletcher Cox and running back D'Andre Swift have been ruled out for their Week 18 matchup against the New York Giants. The news comes as both players were dealing with injury concerns ahead of the important game.

Swift, aged 24, was listed as questionable for the game due to an illness. However, according to reports from NFL Network's Mike Garofolo, he will be inactive for the game. Despite his absence, Swift's impressive season has made a significant impact for the Eagles. Having rushed for 1,049 yards and 5 touchdowns, with an additional 214 receiving yards and a score, Swift's absence will be keenly felt on the field. Nevertheless, the Philadelphia team will rely on the talents of Kenny Gainwell, Boston Scott, and Rashaad Penny to fill the void left by Swift.

On the defensive side, the Eagles have decided to rest Cox, aged 33, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. Cox, who has been a dependable presence for the team throughout his 12-year NFL career, has played 684 snaps, accounting for 62% of the team's defensive plays this season. Although he missed a game earlier this season, Cox's contributions have been invaluable. With his absence, the Eagles will have to rely on other defensive linemen to step up in his place.

In addition to Cox and Swift, the Eagles will also be without Darius Slay and DeVonta Smith for the Week 18 game. Slay has missed four consecutive games due to knee surgery, while Smith suffered an ankle sprain in the previous week's game. However, both players are expected to be ready for the upcoming playoff game next week. The decision to rest them for this game seems to be a precautionary measure, given concerns about the notorious turf at MetLife Stadium.

To bolster the defensive backfield, the Eagles have elevated Tristan McCollum from the practice squad, who will be active for the game.

As the Eagles face their division rival, the Giants, without key players Cox and Swift, their depth will be tested. However, the team remains optimistic that Slay and Smith will return for the playoffs as they aim to make a deep postseason run.
