In a trade deadline move, the Philadelphia Eagles have made a deal with the Atlanta Falcons, sending defensive tackle Kentavius Street and a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick. While the Eagles did not acquire any players in this trade, the Falcons have added Street to bolster their defensive line.
Street, who had been a part of the Eagles' defensive tackle rotation, found himself behind several talented players on the depth chart. With Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Fletcher Cox, Milton Williams, and Marlon Tuipulotu ahead of him, Street had limited playing time this season. In just 51 snaps, he managed to record three pressures. Nevertheless, Street's performance during training camp earned him a spot on the Eagles' 53-man roster.
The Falcons, on the other hand, decided to part ways with a 2024 sixth-round pick in order to acquire Street. This move comes as a response to a need for reinforcement on the defensive line, especially after Grady Jarrett suffered an ACL tear in Sunday's game against the Titans. With David Onyemata, LaCale London, and Albert Huggins already on the roster, adding Street brings valuable experience to the Falcons' defensive tackle rotation. Having spent the 2022 season with the New Orleans Saints, Street is familiar with the NFC South, and he enjoyed a career-high 3.5 sacks and 19 pressures last year.
Street joined the Eagles on a one-year deal last offseason, and he is set to become a free agent at the end of the year. This trade provides him with an opportunity to make an impact with the Falcons before his contract expires.
In terms of draft picks, the Eagles had only three guaranteed selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft: one first-round pick and two second-round picks. However, they are projected to receive four compensatory picks in 2024, including one third-round pick and three fifth-round picks. Prior to this trade, the Eagles did not have any guaranteed Day 3 picks. With Street now traded, it remains to be seen if the Eagles will look to add another defensive tackle to their roster.
From the Falcons' perspective, this trade represents a low-risk move that addresses a position of need. Street's familiarity with their defensive system, particularly his career-best performance under co-defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen with the New Orleans Saints, makes him a valuable addition. The Falcons gave up a conditional 2024 sixth-round pick and gained a seventh-round pick in 2025, ultimately positioning themselves to benefit from Street's potential impact on the field.
As the trade plays out, fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on how Street adapts to his new team. With increased playing time and a familiar system, he has the opportunity to make significant contributions to the Falcons' defense.
