Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green considered retirement after being indefinitely suspended from basketball but ultimately decided to continue playing after a meeting with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. The 33-year-old player opened up about his emotional conversation with Silver during an episode of The Draymond Green Show.

Green revealed that he expressed his doubts to Commissioner Silver, stating, "Adam, this is too much for me... This is too much. It's all becoming too much for me—and I'm going to retire." However, Silver responded by advising Green against making a rash decision, assuring him that he would provide support rather than punishment.

Expressing gratitude towards Commissioner Silver's guidance, Green acknowledged the importance of having a commissioner who prioritizes assisting players. The conversation left a positive impact on Green, leading him to reconsider his retirement plans and commit to continuing his basketball career.

Green's suspension came as a result of an incident during a game on December 12. He forcefully struck Jusuf Nurkić, the center for the Phoenix Suns, on the head with a flailing arm. This incident followed another altercation in which Green put Rudy Gobert, the center for the Minnesota Timberwolves, in a headlock. The latter incident led to a five-game suspension for Green.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed Green's behavior, expressing a need for change and acknowledging that it extends beyond outbursts on the court. Kerr emphasized his belief in Green's potential for growth and his affection for him as both a player and a person.

Since his suspension, Green has been required to fulfill certain conditions in order to be reinstated. These conditions involve engaging in meetings with a counselor and participating in joint sessions with representatives from the NBA, the Warriors, and the National Basketball Players Association. Green has completed steps that demonstrate his commitment to conforming to the conduct expected of NBA players.

Having missed 14 games during his suspension, Green is projected to have a short period of practice and conditioning before rejoining the team. His return is eagerly anticipated, as the Warriors look to strengthen their roster and make a strong push in the remainder of the season.

The meeting with Commissioner Silver appears to have had a profound impact on Green, leading him to rediscover his passion for the game and his commitment to personal growth. As he embarks on the next phase of his basketball journey, all eyes will be on Green to see how he responds to the lessons learned from this experience.
