The Miami Dolphins showcased their dominance on Sunday afternoon as they effortlessly dispatched the Commanders, securing a resounding 45-15 victory. The Dolphins' stellar performance was marked by impressive plays from receiver Tyreek Hill and a standout defensive effort.
Tyreek Hill had an exceptional game, kickstarting Miami's scoring with a dazzling 78-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. He continued to shine in the second period, catching a 60-yard touchdown pass that pushed the Dolphins' lead to 24-7. Hill's outstanding performance earned him a total of five catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns, cementing his place in franchise history. According to the Fox broadcast, Hill became just the second player since Paul Warfield in 1971 to achieve two touchdowns of at least 60 yards in a single game.
The Dolphins' defense also played a crucial role in their triumph. Andrew Van Ginkel intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown late in the first quarter, further solidifying Miami's commanding lead. Additionally, Raheem Mostert contributed to the team's success with a 1-yard touchdown just before halftime, establishing a comfortable 31-7 advantage.
Running back De'Von Achane took the game out of reach for the Commanders early in the third quarter with a 4-yard touchdown. Achane's stellar performance didn't stop there, as he added another touchdown with just under two minutes left in the contest. This final touchdown capped a 13-play, 59-yard drive that spanned nearly eight minutes, demonstrating the Dolphins' determination even as they secured victory.
The Dolphins recorded impressive statistics, with 20 first downs and a remarkable 67% conversion rate on third down. They accumulated a total of 406 yards on offense, averaging 6.9 yards per play.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa displayed his efficiency, completing 18 of his 24 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns. Head coach Mike McDaniel decided to rest Tagovailoa in the fourth quarter, providing an opportunity for backup quarterback Mike White to take the field.
On the opposing side, Commanders' quarterback Sam Howell faced a challenging game. Howell completed 12 of his 23 passes for 127 yards, but also threw an interception. He managed to add two rushing touchdowns but was sacked three times by the Dolphins' fierce defense.
With this victory, the Dolphins improved their record to 9-3 for the first time since 2001. They now hold a commanding lead in the AFC East, making them formidable contenders. Looking ahead, the Dolphins are set to host the Titans next Monday night, where they will seek to extend their winning streak and solidify their standing as a dominant force in the AFC.
