In an exciting announcement, it has been revealed that the Detroit Youth Choir (DYC) will be the halftime act at the Detroit Lions' first home playoff game in Ford Field history. Set to take place on Sunday, January 14, with kickoff shortly after 8:00 p.m. on NBC, the Lions will face off against Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams.
The talented young members of the DYC, ranging in ages from 8 to 18, will deliver a captivating performance featuring two of their signature songs. According to choir director Anthony White, the halftime show will include renditions of "Hey Look Ma, I Made It" by Panic! At The Disco and "Centuries" by Fall Out Boy.
Expressing his excitement, White shared with MLive that this performance would be historic not only for the Lions but also for the Detroit Youth Choir. He expressed the choir's gratitude for every opportunity to perform, highlighting that they haven't graced the Ford Field stage since 2019, making this moment all the more special. White concluded with a spirited cheer, "Go Lions!"
The DYC gained national attention when they received Terry Crews' Golden Buzzer during their first audition on season 14 of "America's Got Talent" back in 2019. While they finished in second place, the youth choir also earned Crews' Golden Buzzer on "AGT All Stars" in 2023, further solidifying their talent and recognition.
Adding to their accomplishments, the Detroit Youth Choir will be featured in their very own show on Disney+. Titled "Choir," the docuseries will comprise six episodes and is set to release all episodes on January 31st. The show follows the journey of Anthony White and the DYC members over the past few years as they prepared to perform at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall.
Notably, this playoff game will mark the first time the Lions have hosted a postseason match since the 1993 season, and it holds particular significance for Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. As the game brings him back to Ford Field, the place where he was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in 2009, Stafford's return is an eagerly anticipated event. Additionally, this will be the first time quarterback Jared Goff, who was part of the trade that sent Stafford to the Rams, will play against his former team.
As anticipation builds for this historic game, fans inside Ford Field can look forward to enjoying the awe-inspiring talents of the Detroit Youth Choir during halftime. With their powerful voices and poignant performances, the DYC will undoubtedly make this playoff game an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.
