In a pivotal Week 17 matchup, the Detroit Lions are gearing up to face the Dallas Cowboys with playoff implications on the line. As both teams juggle a shortened practice week, the Lions' practice schedule has been adjusted to ensure their players are in the best possible condition. Wednesday's practice report, in particular, will shed light on the team's current health status.

One major concern emerging from Lions camp is the absence of starting left tackle Taylor Decker during Wednesday's practice. The previous day's estimated limited participation was downgraded, casting doubt on Decker's availability for the upcoming game. However, the circumstances surrounding his absence suggest that it may be a precautionary measure. Given the short week and the veteran player's injury, it is not uncommon for coaches to grant rest days. Furthermore, Decker's ability to practice on Tuesday and his full game participation in the previous week are positive signs.

Nevertheless, if Decker fails to return to the practice field by Thursday, his chances of playing in Saturday's game against the Cowboys may diminish. In the event of his absence, the Lions have potential replacements in mind. The most likely candidates are Dan Skipper and rookie Colby Sorsdal. Historically, when Decker was injured, the Lions shifted Penei Sewell to left tackle while Skipper or Sorsdal filled in at right tackle. However, considering the formidable pass rush of Cowboys' Micah Parsons, who leads the league in pressures, the Lions may opt to keep Sewell on the right side.

Additionally, wide receiver Tyrell Wright's absence from practice raises concerns regarding his availability as well. Missing five consecutive practices, Wright appears to be edging toward missing another game. However, the Lions opted against placing him on injured reserve last week, suggesting they anticipate his return in Week 18 or potentially the first round of the playoffs.

Meanwhile, fullback Jason Cabinda and defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson continue to progress through the evaluation process. Cabinda, who is recovering from a knee injury, has 14 more days remaining for evaluation before a potential return. If cleared, his presence could help offset any potential gaps left by Wright's absence. Similarly, Gardner-Johnson, who has been nursing a pectoral injury, is also in the evaluation process and might be ready to make his comeback this weekend. However, with two more weeks left in the evaluation period, the Lions can afford to be patient with his return.

As the Detroit Lions prepare for their crucial matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, the availability of players such as Taylor Decker, Tyrell Wright, Jason Cabinda, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson remains uncertain. Determining their ability to contribute on the field will be crucial for the Lions' chances of securing a favorable postseason position.
