D.C. United, a prominent Major League Soccer (MLS) team, has announced the appointment of Troy Lesesne as their new Head Coach. Lesesne, who signed a three-year deal through 2026, will take charge of the Black-and-Red and lead the team into a new chapter.

Expressing his gratitude, Lesesne thanked the club's management for entrusting him with this responsibility. He acknowledged the rich history of D.C. United since its inception in 1996 and conveyed his excitement to connect with the passionate supporters. The new Head Coach is determined to deliver the desired results that the fans deserve. Lesesne expressed optimism regarding the club's infrastructure and investments, indicating that they have the potential to reach new heights. He emphasized that there is significant work to be done as they prepare for the upcoming 2024 season.

Lesesne brings valuable experience to D.C. United, having served as the interim head coach for the New York Red Bulls last season. Under his guidance, the Red Bulls recorded an impressive 10-9-4 record in the regular season, which propelled them from last place in the Eastern Conference to securing a spot in the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs. Despite falling to FC Cincinnati in the first round, Lesesne led the team to its first postseason win since 2018 by triumphing over Charlotte FC in the Wild Card match. His overall coaching record during his tenure was 14-10-8, including successful runs in both the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Leagues Cup competitions.

The decision to appoint Lesesne was met with approval from the D.C. United management. Ally Mackay, the General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer, commended Lesesne's impressive coaching background in American soccer and his commitment to a high-pressing tactical approach and player-first managerial style. Mackay believes that Lesesne is the ideal candidate to lead the team in a new and exciting direction.

Lesesne began his coaching career in 2005 as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston in NCAA Division I. He then gained experience with various teams, such as the Vancouver Whitecaps, Charleston Battery, and Charlotte Independence. In 2018, Lesesne was appointed as the Head Coach and Technical Director of New Mexico United, where he achieved notable success, including a 2020 USL Co-Coach of the Year accolade.

With a U.S. Pro Coaching License and an academic background in Communication from the College of Charleston, Lesesne brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role at D.C. United.

D.C. United's 2024 MLS season will kick off on Saturday, February 24 at 7:30 PM EST, with a home match at Audi Field against the New England Revolution. The team's full schedule can be found on their official website, where fans can also access season ticket memberships and single match tickets for an exciting season ahead.
