Corey Perry has issued a sincere apology for his "inappropriate and wrong" behavior that led to the termination of his contract with the Chicago Blackhawks this week. In a statement released on Thursday, Perry expressed his remorse to the entire Blackhawks organization, including ownership, management, coaches, trainers, employees, teammates, as well as his fans and family.

The 38-year-old forward was placed on unconditional waivers on Tuesday, resulting in the termination of his contract. The Blackhawks deemed Perry's behavior "unacceptable" and stated that it violated both his contract terms and the team's internal organizational policies, which aim to promote professional and safe work environments.

Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson revealed that the decision to terminate Perry's contract came following an internal investigation into a workplace matter involving the veteran player. The exact nature of the incident has not been disclosed.

Perry has expressed his commitment to seeking professional help for substance abuse. He acknowledged that he has begun working with experts in mental health and substance abuse fields to address his struggles with alcohol. Perry emphasized his determination to take any necessary steps to ensure that such behavior never repeats itself. As a result of his contract termination, Perry is now an unrestricted free agent.

The Blackhawks were first made aware of the allegations last week while they were in Columbus, Ohio, to play against the Blue Jackets on November 22. Sources have revealed that Perry traveled with the team to Columbus but was scratched from the game following the incident. An investigation was promptly initiated.

The NHL and NHLPA (National Hockey League Players' Association) have been informed about the incident and subsequent investigation. The NHLPA is considering whether to file a grievance over Perry's contract termination.

There have been rumors circulating on social media speculating about the nature of the incident, suggesting it involved a family member of another Blackhawks player. However, Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson vehemently denied these claims, stating that such speculation is "wildly inaccurate and, frankly, disgusting."

In his statement, Corey Perry acknowledged the impact of the speculation and rumors stemming from his actions. He expressed his revulsion at the consequences these rumors have had on others and unequivocally stated that neither his teammates nor their families were involved. Perry expressed remorse for any negative repercussions caused and admitted that his behavior was inappropriate and wrong.

Corey Perry was signed by the Blackhawks during the summer on a one-year contract worth $4 million, with the team seeking his veteran leadership on a young rebuilding roster. With a career spanning 19 years, Perry has amassed an impressive record of 421 goals and 471 assists in 1,273 games played. He has previously played for the Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, and won the Stanley Cup in 2007 with the Ducks. Perry was also awarded the Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP for the 2010-11 season.
