The Washington Commanders have announced that they will not be retaining Eric Bieniemy as their offensive coordinator for the upcoming season. The team made the decision following the appointment of Kliff Kingsbury as the new offensive coordinator on Monday.

Although the Commanders did not make an official announcement regarding Bieniemy's status after he led the offense during the 2023 season, reports from Pro Football Talk (PFT) indicated that discussions were still ongoing. However, the arrival of Kingsbury seemed to have solidified the decision, which was confirmed during head coach Dan Quinn's first press conference with the team on Monday afternoon.

During the press conference, Coach Quinn spoke highly of Bieniemy, referring to him as an excellent coach. He expressed his wishes for Bieniemy's success in his future endeavors but confirmed that they would not be working together in Washington. Quinn also mentioned that he had the opportunity to speak with Bieniemy personally and that their dialogue would continue.

Bieniemy, who made a lateral move last year to take on the play-calling responsibilities, had interviewed for the Commanders' head coaching position early in the hiring process. However, he has not been considered for any other coordinator positions throughout the league during this hiring cycle.

The departure of Bieniemy as offensive coordinator marks a significant change for the Commanders' coaching staff. As the team begins preparations for the upcoming season with the appointment of Kliff Kingsbury, fans will be eager to see his impact on the offensive side of the ball.

With the NFL offseason in full swing, teams are evaluating and making adjustments to their coaching staff and roster in hopes of a successful campaign. As the Commanders navigate these changes, the search for a new role for Bieniemy and the chemistry-building process with Kingsbury will be crucial for their success moving forward.

The Commanders will continue their preparations for the upcoming NFL season, with the coaching staff changes signaling a new chapter for the team.
