The Los Angeles Chargers have confirmed that they interviewed Jim Harbaugh, the current head coach of the University of Michigan Wolverines, for their vacant head coach position. As the Chargers continue their search for a new leader, here are five key things to know about Harbaugh:

1. A dominant winner: Harbaugh recently led the Wolverines to a College Football National Championship, securing the university's first outright title since 1947. Michigan finished the season with a perfect 15-0 record, becoming one of only six teams in history to achieve this feat. Under Harbaugh's guidance, Michigan boasted an exceptional defense, ranking first in scoring and total defense. The team allowed just 10.40 points per game, the fewest in the entire country.

2. A Michigan Man: Harbaugh's return to his alma mater as head coach has brought significant success and numerous accolades. Since his arrival in 2015, he has accumulated an impressive record of 89-25 (.781). Harbaugh has led the Wolverines to six seasons with at least 10 wins, three consecutive Big Ten Conference titles, and three straight College Football Playoff berths. He has also strengthened Michigan's recruiting pipeline and nurtured the development of numerous star players.

3. Experienced NFL Head Coach: Before his tenure as Michigan's head coach, Harbaugh gained valuable experience in the NFL. He began his coaching career as the quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders and then moved on to become the head coach at the University of San Diego and Stanford University. In 2011, Harbaugh joined the San Francisco 49ers as their head coach. He enjoyed a successful stint in San Francisco, reaching the NFC Championship in each of his first three seasons, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2012.

4. A 1st-round pick: Harbaugh's football career began at the University of Michigan, where he excelled as a quarterback. He was selected in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. Harbaugh spent seven seasons with the Bears before moving on to the Indianapolis Colts, where he achieved great success, including leading the team to the AFC Championship in 1995. He was later inducted into the Colts Ring of Honor in 2005.

5. An iconic football family: Football prowess runs in the Harbaugh family. Jim's father, Jack Harbaugh, enjoyed a successful coaching career at various collegiate programs, including Bowling Green, Iowa, and Western Michigan. He led Western Kentucky's football program to their first and only NCAA Division I-AA Championship. Jim's brother, John Harbaugh, is currently the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens and has faced off against Jim on three occasions, including a memorable clash in Super Bowl XLVII.

As the Chargers weigh their options, Jim Harbaugh's impressive track record and experience in both the college and professional ranks make him a compelling candidate for the head coach position.
