Buffalo Bills Prepare for Playoff Matchup Despite Multiple Injuries
Orchard Park, N.Y. - The Buffalo Bills are pressing forward with their preparations for the AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs, despite a number of key players being sidelined due to injuries. On Wednesday, the team held a walk-through practice at Highmark Stadium.
A total of six players did not participate in practice due to various injuries. Cornerback Christian Benford, linebacker Terrell Bernard, wide receiver Gabe Davis, punter Sam Martin, safety Taylor Rapp, and linebacker Baylon Spector were all unable to take part in the team's first practice session of the week.
One of the most concerning injuries is that of linebacker Terrell Bernard, who appeared to sustain a severe ankle injury during the previous game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, there is cautious optimism that Bernard may be available for Sunday's matchup, as he participated in team meetings on Wednesday. Head coach Sean McDermott expressed hope for Bernard's recovery.
Cornerback Taron Johnson, who has been in concussion protocol, was limited in Wednesday's practice. Johnson's availability for Sunday's game remains uncertain.
Despite the setbacks, cornerback Rasul Douglas and linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who both missed the game against the Steelers, were estimated to have participated in practice on Wednesday. Their return would provide a boost to the team's defensive lineup.
In light of punter Sam Martin's hamstring injury and uncertain playing status for Sunday, the Bills have re-signed punter Matt Haack to their practice squad. Haack previously served as the team's punter and holder in 2021.
Furthermore, head coach McDermott announced that defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, who underwent wrist surgery, is not yet ready to return to the field. Phillips will remain on Injured Reserve for the time being.
As the Buffalo Bills continue their preparations for the divisional playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the team will closely monitor the recovery of their injured players. McDermott and his coaching staff will make necessary adjustments to fill any positional gaps.
Sunday's AFC Divisional Round playoff game at Highmark Stadium promises to be an intense matchup between two formidable teams. The Bills will aim to overcome these challenges and secure a victory to advance further in the playoffs.
