In a recent report by NESN.com, it was revealed that Jake DeBrusk, a forward for the Boston Bruins, was benched for a game due to violating a team rule. However, DeBrusk handled the situation with maturity and took full responsibility for his actions.
The incident occurred prior to the Bruins' Saturday night game against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena. Boston's head coach, Jim Montgomery, stated that DeBrusk was not included in the lineup because he arrived late to a team meeting. As a result, DeBrusk was made a healthy scratch for that game.
Fortunately for DeBrusk, it was just a one-game punishment. He made a strong comeback the following day in the Bruins' 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center. DeBrusk contributed with an assist during the game, proving his commitment to the team.
Speaking to reporters after the win, DeBrusk expressed his understanding of the consequences of his actions and showed remorse for letting his teammates down. He highlighted the high standards that the Bruins have as a team and took full ownership of his mistake.
"I broke a team rule. I understand there are consequences with that and I own up to it completely," said DeBrusk. "I let the guys down. I wanted to join them in LA (on Saturday) and having to watch really sucked. I felt it and I just wanted to do anything I could to help the team out (Sunday) in any way."
DeBrusk further emphasized his pride in being a part of the Bruins organization and the team's standards. He acknowledged that he had no argument or defense to offer and accepted the punishment without any rebuttal.
Moving forward, DeBrusk plans to put the incident behind him and focus on helping the Bruins maintain their winning streak. The team is set to conclude their four-game road trip against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night.
It is commendable to see DeBrusk take accountability for his actions and exhibit a mature response to the situation. As the Bruins continue their successful season, DeBrusk's commitment and determination on the ice will surely contribute to the team's ongoing success.
