The Phoenix Suns are gearing up for their highly anticipated season opener against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. However, they may have to face their opponents without one of their promising new stars.
According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, it is "unlikely" that Bradley Beal will be able to take the floor due to a back issue. Beal last played on October 16, during the Suns' preseason victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite struggling with his shot, Beal managed to contribute 11 points, two assists, and two steals in 18 minutes of play. It remains uncertain if the back issue was already affecting him at that time.
Shortly after the preseason game, the Suns announced that Beal was dealing with low back tightness and would not participate in their final preseason match against the Los Angeles Lakers. At that point, the team did not believe that Beal's back issue would carry over into the regular season. Even just a few days ago, head coach Frank Vogel showed optimism regarding Beal's condition, stating that he did not seem overly concerned.
During Monday's practice, Beal expressed his confidence that his back issue is improving. He mentioned, "It's better, it's better... Definitely trending right and feeling better. Was able to practice last two days. So it's been good."
Although Beal's remarks are positive, no official statement has been made regarding his availability for upcoming games. However, if his improvement continues, there is hope that Beal could return to the lineup sooner rather than later.
On the other hand, Devin Booker, the Suns' homegrown star, is confirmed to be playing in the season opener despite dealing with a sore toe. Booker's last appearance was also on October 16 against the Blazers, where he had an impressive performance, contributing 19 points, two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and four 3-pointers in just 18 minutes of play.
Booker sat out the preseason finale against the Lakers, but it was listed as a rest day rather than an injury-related absence. Head coach Frank Vogel reassured fans that Booker's sore toe should not affect his availability for the regular season, a statement that has proven accurate.
In an interview with Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic, Booker confirmed that he will be taking the court for the season opener. Fans can expect to see him in action as the Suns face off against the Warriors on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on TNT.
The absence of Bradley Beal on the court will be a setback for the Suns, as they hope to make a strong start to their season against a formidable opponent. However, if Beal's recovery continues to progress positively, it won't be long before the Suns can count on having their star player back in action.
