AUBURN, AL - Auburn guard Denver Jones received a heartwarming welcome as he returned to his home state to play in front of a cheering crowd at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama on Wednesday. The game saw the Auburn Tigers secure a commanding 87-62 victory against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs.

Jones, a native of New Market, Alabama, made his way onto the court amid applause from both familiar faces and Auburn fans in attendance. His journey to Auburn has taken him from community college in Kansas to FIU before finally landing in the SEC, closer to his hometown.

The game in Huntsville served as a special occasion for Jones, allowing him to reflect on his childhood and high school days. The familiar surroundings reminded him of being called out as part of the starting five, with the crowd roaring in support. "It felt really good being able to play in front of the home crowd tonight," Jones expressed.

While the game was largely unsurprising in terms of outcome, with Auburn's victory expected against an overmatched UNC Asheville, it still served as a showcase for the Tigers. Head coach Bruce Pearl expressed his intention to return to Huntsville after the impressive turnout of over 6,500 fans, leading to a sellout announcement by the Von Braun Center.

Pearl recognized the strong support for Auburn in Huntsville, stating, "I don't think there's anybody in the state that has more support than Huntsville for Auburn. It's great to be here, it's a reward for our fanbase, and I appreciate the sponsors. It's a great venue and great facility. We'll definitely come back."

Jones, who seized the opportunity to have his parents and numerous friends witness his performance, contributed greatly to Auburn's victory. He scored nine points, including a three-pointer early in the game, and added five rebounds and an assist. Displaying a balanced effort, Auburn outclassed UNC Asheville in a game that saw Jones clock the most minutes on the court among his teammates.

Pearl praised Jones for his homecoming performance, acknowledging the pressure that comes with playing in front of familiar faces. "He will always own Huntsville as his home. This is where his family lives, (where he) grew up. Just wonderful family in this community," Pearl commended.

The game not only showcased Jones' skill and connection to his hometown but also allowed Auburn fans in northern Alabama a rare opportunity to witness their beloved team in action without undertaking a lengthy drive. The event served as a reward for Auburn's dedicated fanbase, as they cheered on the Tigers in a passionate display of support.

As Jones cherished the opportunity to perform in front of his loved ones, his homecoming game in Huntsville will be remembered as a significant highlight in his collegiate basketball career.
