The Arizona Wildcats football program is actively considering promoting offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Brennan Carroll to the head coaching position. While lacking experience as a head coach, Carroll's impressive track record with the Wildcats and his contributions to transforming the team's offense make him a strong contender for the role.

Carroll has been with the Wildcats for the past three seasons, during which he played a key role in revitalizing Arizona's offensive performance. Last season, the Wildcats averaged an impressive 34.62 points per game, ranking 18th in the country. In 2022, they continued to impress, putting up an average of 30.83 points per game. This remarkable improvement came after a challenging 2021 season where they averaged only 17.17 points per game.

Furthermore, Carroll's guidance resulted in the Wildcats finishing in the top 20 nationally with an average of 448 yards per game in 2023. With key offensive players like quarterback Noah Fifita and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan expected to return, appointing Carroll as head coach would ensure continuity and potentially prevent any players from leaving the program via the transfer portal.

Carroll's lineage is also an intriguing factor in his potential promotion. As the son of former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, there is a possibility that the elder Carroll could join the Wildcats' coaching staff in some capacity, providing additional expertise and support.

Brennan Carroll's coaching career has seen him work closely with his father at USC, serving as a graduate assistant and a tight ends coach. The duo also collaborated in Seattle while Brennan worked as an assistant offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the Seahawks.

Prior to Jedd Fisch's appointment as head coach in December 2020, San Jose State head coach Brent Brennan was one of the top candidates linked to the Wildcats' coaching position. Brennan has a personal connection to Arizona, having served as a graduate assistant at the university in 2000 under head coach Dick Tomey. Additionally, his brother, Brad Brennan, played as a wide receiver for the Wildcats.

Although Brennan's overall career record at San Jose State stands at 34-48, his recent performance has been commendable. Over the past four years, he has led the Spartans to a 26-19 record, including three bowl berths. In 2020, he was honored as the College Football Coach of the Year by the Lombardi Foundation after guiding San Jose State to an undefeated regular season before falling in the Arizona Bowl.

Meanwhile, Washington State head coach Jake Dickert is rumored to be considering a departure from the Cougars due to the instability in the Pac-12 conference. With Washington State and Oregon State ineligible to participate in the conference championship, Dickert may seek a move to Arizona and the Big 12 for greater stability.

During his tenure with Washington State, Dickert achieved mixed results, tallying a record of 15-16 and leading the team to two bowl appearances in three seasons. He took over as head coach after Nick Rolovich was fired for refusing to comply with the state's COVID-19 vaccination mandate. The Cougars started the previous season strong with a 4-0 record, ascending to the No. 13 ranking, but faltered thereafter, losing seven of their final eight games.

As the coaching search for Arizona intensifies, the Wildcats will carefully evaluate the potential of both Carroll and Brennan to lead the team to further success on the gridiron.
