In the wake of the University of Michigan's victory in the national football championship game, celebrations in Ann Arbor turned rowdy, leading to several small fires. The Ann Arbor Fire Department reported that fire crews had to put out a total of 17 "couch and debris" fires on Monday night, with no buildings or vehicles affected, and no injuries reported.

The blazes took place in the area between South University Avenue and Hill Street near Washtenaw Avenue. Following the Michigan Wolverines' triumph over the Washington Huskies in Houston, fans flooded the streets of Ann Arbor, cheering and chanting for their team. Some individuals even climbed posts and trees in their excitement.

Although the practice of burning couches and garbage cans has been observed at nearby Michigan State University during victorious sports events, this was a relatively rare occurrence in Ann Arbor. Despite the rowdy behavior, no arrests were made in connection with the celebrations.

Michigan Football ended their season with a perfect 15-0 record, marking their first national title win in 26 years. This successful season represented their third consecutive trip to the College Football Playoff, but the first time they managed to advance past the semifinal round.

Overall, while the fires caused concern during the celebrations, the prompt response from the Ann Arbor Fire Department prevented any significant damage or injuries.
